Why your intuition might be blocked

That inner knowing we all have - also known as our 'gut instinct' or 'sixth sense' - has been hardwired into us for our survival, for millennia. And yet we all experience moments when our intuition gets blocked. This blog is for people who wonder why their intuition can feel blocked, and contains a few tips to help them get unstuck.

Your intuition is like an internal compass. It’s innate and is communicating with you all the time. But if you are not ‘trusting your gut’, you may notice you feel more anxious, lost and confused. So, to help you better understand yourself, here are a seven reasons why your intuition might get blocked -
#1. - Your mind chatter is too loud
The Buddha held that the mind is full of drunken monkeys flying around from branch to branch. It’s no surprise this happens when we live in a world that is saturated with noise, negative news media, instant messaging and a multitude of entertainment apps, and “hurry, buy now!” fire-sales. It’s ok. Just being aware of this can help kick-start the return to stillness.
#2. - Your emotions are unsettled
If the mind is full of drunken monkey’s then the emotions are like a herd of wild horses running loose. Stress, anxiety, fear and anger are common intuition blocks. Don’t beat yourself up! Have a conversation with your emotions; ask your emotions what they want to show you. Instead of fighting or resisting your emotions; surrender and observe to the valuable process of emotional release.
#3 - Your mind has become biased
Your intuition might be blocked because of your own bias. Bias is common and not always a bad, i.e. you’re biased when you think you have the hottest partner that ever lived! But your biases can sometimes affect your ability to listen to your gut and make good decisions. The key here is to recognise this when it happens and be as open and flexible as possible.
#4. - Your body is not relaxed
Have you noticed it can be difficult to concentrate or to relax when you have unpleasant physical sensations in the body that are pulling on your mind? They may be body aches and pains, muscle tension or strain. Instead of trying to numb the sensations, ‘witness it’. As if it was a person, ask your physical symptoms for information and observe what intuitive insights you receive.
#5 - Your desires are too strong
Have you ever tricked yourself into believing you can control certain situations, outcomes and other people? If so, let go! Know that it is so difficult to control your own mind let alone try to control someone else’s mind. Ask yourself “am I too invested in a certain outcome or result?” If the answer is yes, visualise yourself handing the outcome over to the Universe / Source / God / the Divine. Surrender the outcome up to your highest good.
#6. - Your perception of time is scarce
Being in a rush to do or have something can often block intuitive information and guidance. Instead of putting yourself under a time pressure to achieve a milestone or deadline, think about all of the times where you did “get it done” on time. Then, let go your story about not having enough time and, instead, see yourself as an all-powerful creator of time. When your intuition returns, it will show you how to achieve your goal or target in a much more joyful and efficient way.
#7. - Your diet needs attention
Processed foods, caffeine, alcohol and any form of overeating and overindulging can all block your intuition. This is because they affect your vibration. The higher your vibration, the easier it is to receive intuitive information. So, if your intuition feels blocked, try eating fresh organic wholefoods and cut down / eliminate caffeine and alcohol. While changing your dietary habits can feel challenging at first, it won’t take long to notice the benefits - and your body will thank you for it!
