What to do when your intuition is blocked

In an earlier blog titled "Why your intuition may be blocked", we looked at a few reasons why the intuition gets blocks. This blog highlights a few simple tips, tricks and tools you can use to release the blocks and get back into flow with your inner guidance system.

It's very common for the intuition to get blocked. If it does, the very first thing you can do is relax. This sends an important signal to your nervous system that you are safe. Once you do that, you can explore other ways to get back into flow. Here are at least eight more ideas -

#1. Accept - Accept yourself and this moment, as you are and as the moment is! Don’t make yourself wrong, judge or criticise yourself for what is happening. That only feels like self- punishment. When we drop resistant to what is happening and when we stop trying to be something or someone else, our energy shifts. Just as the sun continues to shine behind the clouds, your intuition is only temporary hidden; it never really goes away.

#2. Draw inwards – Remove yourself from distractions, spend quiet time in solitude and draw your senses inwards. Try doing some gentle eye exercises or rest the eyes, do tai chi, yoga and / or meditation, and explore slow breathing exercises or yoga breathing techniques Alternate nostril breathing and 'humming bee breath' are both very good for calming the central nervous system. Drawing the senses inwards is like inviting intuitive information into your house.

#3. Let Go – Let go any destructive thoughts or emotions; let go of the temptation to try and control the moment. Instead, try journaling to get all the emotional and mental energy out onto a page. Head outdoors and spend some time in and observing nature. Get your head into the sunshine; shine it onto your forehead and pituitary gland. Do some gentle yoga poses or go for a relaxed walk, rather than a run. Movement shifts energy and honours the physicality of our bodies.

#4. Listen – Listen to some relaxing music. Did you know that different musical instruments affect different parts of your body and your chakra system? The Root Chakra responds to drums, the Sacral and Solar Plexus respond to brass wind instruments, the Heart Chakra responds to string instruments, the Throat Chakra responds to the flute and the piano, and the Third Eye Chakra responds to bells and birdsong. To activate your intuition, try listening to classical music (e.g. Mozart sonatas), bells or Tibetan singing bowls.

#5. Imagine – Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths and visualise the space between your eyebrows (Third Eye Chakra); visualise it opening up like flower petals or like a cone spiraling out, front and back. Then visualise receiving intuitive messages into this chakra. You could also imagine gathering up all of your unsettled emotions and thoughts and letting them float off on the wind. (Give them a smile and a wave as you watch them disappear into the horizon).

#6. Use – Did you know that, like us, crystals and essential oils carry vibrations? Crystals have been used for thousands of years, for healing and spiritual rituals. Sapphire, tanzanite, lapis lazuli and essential oils of camphor, sweet pea or heliotrope can be used to support intuitive development. Use them in your home or office, while you’re doing yoga, meditating, or take them with you when you go out.

#7. Affirm – Set a firm intention to receive intuitive information. Use verbal affirmations to boost your self-worth and affirm your intuitive capacities, e.g. “I am wise, intuitive and aligned with my highest good”. Feel grateful for what you already have and for what you will receive through intention and your powers of manifestation. If it feels right, acknowledge your angels and guides for supporting you to develop your intuitive abilities. Shekhinah, the feminine face of God, is associated with the Third Eye so you could also ask Her for balance, healing and guidance.

#.8 Avoid – Caffeinated, alcoholic drinks, heavy and processed food can play havoc with our bodies and our Chakras. If your intuition is blocked, take a break from or eliminate these substances. Choose fresh wholefoods instead and drink lots of water. You’ll not only be flushing toxins from your system, you’ll be reactivating your ability to channel information and receive intuitive messages.
